Graham on the Trial of KSM and 9/11 Conspirators

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today made this statement on reports the Obama Administration is discussing moving the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammad (KSM) and the 9/11 conspirators from New York City.

Next week, Graham will introduce bipartisan legislation to cut off funding for the trials of the 9/11 conspirators in federal, civilian court.  He favors and continues to push for trial by military commission.

Graham said:

“Moving the trial out of New York City addresses only half the problem.  Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and the 9/11 conspirators should be tried by military commission – not civilian court where they will be given the same legal rights as American citizens.

“The decision to prosecute enemy combatants like Khalid Sheikh Mohammad who were captured on foreign battlefields in civilian court is without precedent in our nation’s history.  It should not stand.”
