Graham Remembers Retired Colonel Beverly "Ben" Skardon

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today made this statement on the passing of Ret. Colonel Ben Skardon.

“A giant of a man has fallen and will be missed by his legions of admirers, friends, and wonderful family.

“Colonel Skardon is a Clemson legend and an American hero. He’s one of the last survivors of the Bataan Death March, and with his passing one of the most consequential chapters in American history will be closing. His service reminds us of the cruelty of war, the determination of the American Soldier, and the sacrifices that have to be made to maintain our freedom.

“I was very glad to see Congressman Jeff Duncan was able to secure an honorary promotion to the rank of Brigadier General for Colonel Skardon before his passing.

“Soon-to-be General Skardon and his lovely wife Betsy raised a terrific family, represented the best in America, and were the most faithful Clemson Tiger fans I have ever known.

“I truly believe that he is reunited with his brothers in arms and is looking down on the country he loved full of pride, knowing he fought the good fight.

“May he Rest in Peace.”
