WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today submitted the following member-directed spending requests for three energy and water projects in South Carolina.

Graham made the requests to the Senate Appropriations Committee, a committee on which he serves. Earlier this week, Graham announced he was requesting $12 million for right-of-way acquisition to help in the construction and eventual completion of I-73. When completed, I-73 will connect the Grand Strand area, one of the fastest-growing regions of the state, to I-95.

The energy and water funding requests include:

• $18 million for Orangeburg/Berkeley Reach to provide water to the U.S. Highway 176 corridor in Orangeburg County and Berkeley County in the Camp Hall area.

• $1.5 million for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct a feasibility study for tidal and inland-related flood risk management in the City of Charleston.

• $1 million for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct an expedited comprehensive hydrology study in Horry County to analyze the Waccamaw River to mitigate future flood risks.

Graham noted additional funding requests will be publicly announced in the coming days and weeks. This is the first year since 2010 that Members of Congress can request funding for projects, which are also called ‘earmarks.’
