WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today submitted the following member-directed spending requests for the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies appropriations bill.

Graham made the requests to the Senate Appropriations Committee, a committee on which he serves. Graham previously announced he was requesting funding for Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Energy and Water, Military Construction, Interior, and Commerce, Justice and Science projects.

The Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies funding requests include:

• $17,997,000 for Beaufort Memorial Hospital to expand emergency department capability.

• $12,727,000 for the Medical University of South Carolina to construct and purchase medical equipment for a new hospital, Williamsburg-Lake City Hospital, to serve the communities of Kingstree, Lake City, and the surrounding region.

• $3,200,000 for Benedict College to develop a learning hub that focuses on military families to address educational access, workforce development, and employment.

• $2,175,000 for Cooperative Health to create a pediatric health facility in Richland County.

• $2,000,000 for Northeastern Technical College to facilitate industry transition training for current and former members of the U.S. armed forces in the aviation industry.

• $2,000,000 for the Upstate Veteran Resource Center to construct a resource hub focusing on increasing service availability for veteran mental health and substance abuse programs.

• $750,000 for Columbia International University to train students for high-demand jobs as well as provide resources necessary to educate students lacking access to broadband.

• $610,000 for Limestone University to purchase state-of-the-art biology and chemistry lab equipment to train healthcare workers.

• $5,000,000 for the University of Georgia to support research related to Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases conducted at the John H. (Johnny) Isakson Center for Brain Science and Neurological Disorders.

This is the first year since 2010 that Members of Congress can request funding for projects, which are also called ‘earmarks.’
