Graham Statement on Turkey Cease-Fire Deal

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham today made this statement on the news that a cease-fire agreement has been reached by Turkey in Syria.

“I just spoke with President Trump from Air Force One about developments in Turkey and Syria.

“I appreciate Vice President Pence, Secretary Pompeo, National Security Advisor O’Brien, and Ambassador Jeffrey’s hard work to try to achieve a cease-fire and to create sustainable solutions caused by Turkey’s invasion of Syria.

“Sounds like we may have made real progress regarding a cease-fire and hopefully sustainable solutions to prevent the reemergence of ISIS, the abandonment of our ally, the Kurds, and other strategic interests of the United States, like the containment of Iran.

“I stand ready to continue working with the President to build upon this breakthrough.

“I also stand ready to work in a bipartisan fashion to ensure this incursion by Turkey into northeastern Syria ends, hopefully, in a win-win fashion.

“Turkey has legitimate national security concerns within Syria but they cannot be met by invasion and force of arms.”
