WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today announced Lockheed Martin in Greer will receive approximately $2 million to upgrade several Navy P-3C aircraft.
The P-3C Orion is used by the Navy for anti-submarine warfare patrol and surveillance over both sea and land. In Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Orion has been used to provide instant battlefield intelligence to troops on the ground.
The award is part of a $9.1 million increase awarded to Lockheed Martin on an existing contract with the Naval Air Systems Command.
“Once again, South Carolina is demonstrating that we are on the forefront of military technology,” said Graham. “The men and women of our state are playing a vital role in the war on terrorism.”
The work is expected to be completed by September 2004.
