WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) submitted the following member-directed spending requests for Commerce, Justice, and Science, Military Construction, and Agriculture projects in South Carolina. Graham made the requests to the Senate Appropriations Committee, on which he serves.

The Commerce, Justice and Science funding requests include:

  • $2,275,000 for the Town of Lexington to acquire updated technology for the police department.
  • $858,000 for the City of Cayce to upgrade police equipment.
  • $510,000 for the City of Sumter to upgrade their ballistic evidence system.
  • $960,000 for Enough is Enough in Mount Pleasant to conduct online exploitation prevention.

The Military Construction funding requests include:

  • $37,600,000 and $38,300,000 for the replacement of recruit barracks at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.
  • $1,190,000 to plan and design a new fuel pier at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.
  • $5,400,000 to plan and design a new dental clinic at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.

The Agriculture funding requests include:

  • $413,000 for Aiken County to purchase updated firefighting equipment.
  • $1,100,000 for the Kershaw County Family YMCA to develop a child care center and training facility.

Graham noted additional funding requests will be publicly announced in the coming days and weeks.

“I believe it is important that elected officials have a say in how taxpayer money is spent and not rely on bureaucrats in Washington to protect South Carolina’s interests,” said Graham. “The funding requests for member-directed spending items are public record. Every person will be able to judge for themselves if these are worthwhile requests. I believe these projects meet those requirements and will pay dividends for our state in the years to come.”
